Failure to build "flac"

Dave Horsfall
Doing my weekly "port upgrade outdated", it fell over when building "flac"
(whatever that is):

    --->  Attempting to fetch patch-Wvla.diff from http://her.gr.distfiles.macports.org/libsndfile
    Error: Failed to fetch libsndfile: The requested URL returned error: 404 Not Found
    Error: See /opt/local/var/macports/logs/_opt_local_var_macports_sources_aarnet.au.rsync.macports.org_pub_macports_audio_libsndfile/libsndfile/main.log for details.

Is there some reason why my local mirror is out of date?

Note that it failed at libsndfile, not flac.

The mirror isn't out of date. MacPorts should never have attempted to fetch the patch from the mirror, because the patch should already have been in the files directory:

https://github.com/macports/macports-ports/blob/master/audio/libsndfile/files/patch-Wvla.diff

Why isn't it there on your system?

I have no idea; you tell me...

My schedule is: Sunday I "port -u uninstall" to clean out old versions,
then Monday I "port selfupdate" which tells me to run "port upgrade
outdated" (and sometimes offers to clean up some space).  I do not
otherwise fiddle with MacPorts, because I do not know enough to do so (I
know my limits).  Therefore, any problem could only have been introduced
my MacPorts itself...

What's in your libsndfile directory at this time?

ls -dl $(find $(port dir libsndfile))

There should be a Portfile and in the files directory the aforementioned patch file.

Flac is a lossless compression format for audio files.  It was likely
installed along with some media related port.
also some

Warning: You haven't run 'sudo port reclaim' in two weeks. It's recommended you run this regularly to reclaim disk space.

Running with '-LR" to follow symlinks and go recursive if necessary:

Odd...  The "files" directory is empty!  Well, I didn't do it.

Any followup on this?  I'm due for another "port upgrade outdated"
tomorrow...

The mirror you are using is missing files:

$ rsync --no-motd rsync://aarnet.au.rsync.macports.org/pub/macports/ports/audio/libsndfile/files/
drwxr-xr-x              0 2017/05/14 17:12:02 .
$ rsync --no-motd rsync://rsync.macports.org/macports/release/ports/audio/libsndfile/files/
drwxr-xr-x          4,096 2017/05/14 17:12:02 .
-rw-r--r--            789 2017/05/14 17:12:02 patch-Wvla.diff

In any case I would recommend you to switch to ports.tar for syncing. The tarball has a signature that will be verified and therefore any corruption would have been detected.

That did the trick; thanks!  Just my luck to be doing the right thing and
using my local mirror...

Will a MacPorts official beat up on them for this error?  To be a mirror,
I somehow think it ought to at least mirror files...
